Beware of investment scams targeting OFWs

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has advised overseas Filipino workers to be cautious in dealing with persons or group of persons that offer “high-yielding” investments.

A group of OFWs currently working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reported that they were recruited by Sangguniang Masang Pilipino International Incorporated (SMPII), a Philippine-based non-profit organization and encouraged them to make an investment with ALMASAI Finance and Investment (now ALMASAI Equity Holding Corporation).

“Tourist-to-refugee” illegal recruitment scheme bared

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has advised Filipino workers to avoid offers of employment in Japan using “tourist-to-refugee” recruitment scheme.

The Office of the Undersecretary of Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA) of the Department of Foreign Affairs has requested the POEA to investigate a possible case of illegal recruitment or trafficking in persons involving a syndicate operating in Saitama Prefecture.

Implementation of new registration system for EPS-Korea

The Online Application for 2018 EPS-Point System starts 3 January 2018. Application shall be submitted thru the POEA’s Online Registration Facility only, which can be accessed at https://eservices.poea.gov.ph. Applicants already registered with the old eRegistry system are required to sign-up again to create and update their profile.

POEA warns OFWs on job offers from a third country

Filipino workers who are presently employed overseas should be more careful about accepting offers of employment in another country.

The POEA has received reports of Filipino household service workers (HSWs) in Hong Kong, Singapore and Cyprus who were lured into transferring to another country like Dubai, Mongolia, Turkey and Russia and who later found out the conditions of employment are not what one had in mind; or worse, the offered job is non-existent.
